The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a rigorous set of security requirements which ensure that any company that processes, stores or transmits payment information or card data does so securely. Regarded in the industry as the golden standard for processing payment information, they were introduced to provide protection from cyber-crime to both businesses and their clients.

The requirements of PCI DSS certification are designed to support the development of a strong information security system and fall under six main principals:
